Starlink’s move to cut prices and offer free hardware was confirmed by Musk in response to a post on the social media platform X. The post noted that the company was "aggressively cutting prices and giving free hardware to distribution partners." While some speculated this move was related to the upcoming launch of Amazon’s satellite internet service, Kuiper, Musk clarified that this was not the case.

"This has nothing to do with Kuiper, we're just trying to make Starlink more affordable to a broader audience", Musk stated. He emphasized that the initiative is particularly focused on reaching customers in developing countries, where affordability is a key concern. "The lower the cost, the more Starlink can be used by people who don't have much money, especially in the developing world", he added.

Expansion Efforts: Direct-To-Cell Technology and In-Flight Wi-Fi

In addition to its affordability push, Starlink continues to expand its technological offerings. The company recently announced plans to roll out direct-to-cell connectivity in the European Union. This is set to begin trials in collaboration with the Spanish telecom operator MasOrange, focusing on the Valladolid province in Spain.

Starlink’s in-flight Wi-Fi service is also gaining traction, with United Airlines confirming that the satellite internet service is now available on more than 300 aircraft. United aims to expand this service to 800 planes by the end of the year, marking a significant leap in Starlink's efforts to enhance in-flight connectivity.

SpaceX’s Ambitious Plans and Future Prospects

SpaceX is also making headlines with its other ventures. Recently, the company merged with Musk’s artificial intelligence startup, xAI, creating an entity valued at approximately $1.25 trillion.
