Starlink introduces 20,000 new users daily, reaching 9 million customers

Elon Musk’s satellite-based internet service, Starlink, has reached a major milestone by surpassing 9 million active customers worldwide. According to SpaceX, the company behind Starlink, this achievement comes just over a month after the service crossed the 8 million customer mark, reflecting a rapid growth rate of more than 20,000 new users joining every day.

Rapid Expansion Across 155 Markets

In a post shared on X, formerly known as Twitter, SpaceX announced, "Starlink is connecting more than 9M active customers with high-speed internet across 155 countries, territories, and many other markets." The service, powered by a constellation of over 9,000 low-earth orbit satellites, is designed to provide high-speed connectivity, including in remote and underserved areas.

The surge in the customer base highlights a year of significant growth for SpaceX. By December 2024, Starlink reported 4.6 million customers. That number had more than doubled by August 2025, hitting 7 million, before climbing to 9 million by the end of the year.

IPO Rumors and New Revenue Opportunities

Starlink’s progress comes as SpaceX reportedly prepares for a potential initial public offering (IPO) in 2026. The anticipated valuation for the company is said to be $1.5 trillion. Elon Musk, the founder and CEO of SpaceX, recently noted that Starlink is "by far" the largest driver of the company’s revenue.

The satellite internet service has also seen rising demand from various industries. Around two dozen airlines have announced plans to integrate Starlink for in-flight high-speed WiFi. Moreover, there are indications that SpaceX could soon launch its own mobile carrier service powered by the Starlink satellite network.

A Breakthrough Year for SpaceX

SpaceX

The growth of Starlink complements SpaceX’s broader achievements in the space industry. The company has established itself as a leader in commercial spaceflight, successfully launching reusable rockets and delivering more cargo into orbit than any other organization. SpaceX has also benefited from opportunities created by NASA and the Pentagon’s shift away from government-only spaceflight, further solidifying its role in the sector.

As the company continues to innovate, it remains focused on Musk’s ambitious long-term goals, including plans to colonize Mars and develop space-based data centers using its massive Starship rocket.

Looking Ahead

Starlink’s remarkable growth underscores SpaceX’s ability to address global internet connectivity challenges while positioning itself for greater financial and technological achievements. With its user base rapidly expanding and a potential IPO on the horizon, the company is set to remain a key player in the evolving space and communications industries.
