SpaceX Nears Deployment of 25 Starlink Satellites During Falcon 9 Launch

SpaceX set to launch Starlink satellites from Vandenberg, pushing the fleet past 10,000; live coverage begins before liftoff.

SpaceX Nears Deployment of 25 Starlink Satellites During Falcon 9 Launch

A SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket is poised for launch at Space Launch Complex 4 East (SLC-4E) at Vandenberg Space Force Base in California, prepared to deliver 25 Starlink satellites into low Earth orbit. The mission, designated Starlink Group 17-24, is scheduled for liftoff at 8:39:30 p.m. PDT (11:39:30 p.m. EDT / 0339:30 UTC) during the opening minutes of a four-hour launch window.

This launch represents a significant milestone for SpaceX, as the company is on track to surpass 10,000 Starlink satellites in orbit at the same time for the first time. Achieving this feat comes less than seven years after the inaugural Starlink mission in May 2019.

A Historic Coincidence

The timing of the launch marks a special moment in the history of space exploration. Coincidentally, it aligns with the 100th anniversary of Robert Goddard’s groundbreaking flight of the first liquid-propelled rocket in 1926, which used gasoline as fuel. A century later, SpaceX continues to push the boundaries of rocketry with the Falcon 9, a kerosene-fueled vehicle that has become a cornerstone of modern space missions. Monday night’s liftoff will be the 615th flight of the Falcon 9 rocket.

Mission Details and Flight Path

Following launch, the Falcon 9 will ascend on a southerly route from Vandenberg, marking the 17th orbital launch from the base this year. The mission will be powered by the Falcon 9 first stage booster, identified by tail number B1088, which has an extensive flight history. This launch will be its 14th mission, having previously supported NASA’s SPHEREx, Transporter-12, and two National Reconnaissance Office missions.

After separation, the booster is scheduled to attempt a landing on the drone ship "Of Course I Still Love You", stationed in the Pacific Ocean. If successful, this will be the 184th landing on this vessel and the 586th overall booster recovery for SpaceX.

Approaching New Heights

As SpaceX prepares to deploy these 25 additional Starlink satellites, the company's ambitious plan to expand its low Earth orbit constellation continues to reshape global connectivity. The upcoming launch from Vandenberg further solidifies SpaceX’s leadership in commercial spaceflight and satellite deployment, while marking yet another chapter in the ongoing evolution of space technology.
