SpaceX achieves 50th mission launch milestone with Starlink satellites

SpaceX has reached a significant milestone in 2026, completing its 50th orbital mission of the year with the launch of 25 Starlink broadband satellites. The milestone launch occurred on April 26, when a Falcon 9 rocket lifted off from Vandenberg Space Force Base in California at 10:37 a.m. EDT (7:37 a.m. local time).

This mission marks another achievement for SpaceX as it continues its aggressive pace of launches this year. The company announced via social media that the Starlink satellites were successfully deployed into low Earth orbit just over 61 minutes after liftoff.

Falcon 9 Booster Achieves 15th Flight

Falcon 9

The Falcon 9 rocket's first stage, identified as Booster 1088, completed its 15th flight during this mission. Demonstrating SpaceX's mastery of reusable rocket technology, the booster returned to Earth about eight minutes after launch, landing safely on the droneship "Of Course I Still Love You" stationed in the Pacific Ocean.

All 50 SpaceX launches this year have utilized Falcon 9 rockets, showcasing the reliability and reusability of the company's flagship vehicle. Other SpaceX rockets, such as the Falcon Heavy and Starship, have yet to fly in 2026 but are expected to do so soon.

Starlink

The 25 satellites launched as part of this mission join the largest satellite constellation ever assembled. SpaceX’s current constellation comprises nearly 10,300 active satellites in low Earth orbit, the majority of which are dedicated to its Starlink broadband network. Of the 50 missions SpaceX has conducted in 2026, 42 of them were Starlink-related, reflecting the company's focus on expanding global internet coverage.

Looking Ahead: More Launches on the Horizon

Despite already achieving 50 launches by late April, SpaceX shows no signs of slowing down. If the current pace continues, the company is on track for approximately 160 orbital missions by the end of the year. This would come close to the record SpaceX set in 2025 with 165 orbital launches, in addition to five suborbital Starship test flights.

Meanwhile, SpaceX is preparing for upcoming launches by its other rockets. A Falcon Heavy mission, which was delayed due to weather, is now expected to launch on April 29. This will mark Falcon Heavy's first flight since October 2024. Starship, the next-generation spacecraft designed for missions to the Moon and Mars, is also slated for further testing, with the 12th suborbital test flight potentially taking place as early as next month.

SpaceX continues to redefine the spaceflight industry with its rapid cadence of launches and technological advancements, solidifying its reputation as a leader in commercial space exploration. As the company moves forward, its ambitious goals for 2026 are setting the stage for another record-breaking year.
